Tileswari Barua was a young and courageous freedom fighter from Dhekiajuli, Assam.
She played an active role in the Quit India Movement of 1942.
On September 20, 1942, she was martyred during a protest rally in Dhekiajuli while attempting to hoist the Indian national flag at a local police station.
She was shot dead by British police, showcasing remarkable bravery at a very young age (reportedly 12–13 years old).
On the same day and at the same place, Kanaklata Barua, another teenage freedom fighter, was also killed while trying to hoist the flag.
The Dhekiajuli incident is a significant symbol of Assam’s role in the Indian freedom struggle, representing youthful patriotism and the sacrifices made during the Quit India Movement.
