The veto power of the P5—USA, UK, France, Russia, and China—has often crippled UNSC decision-making. Russia blocked action on Crimea (2014) and Ukraine (2022), while the US has repeatedly vetoed resolutions on Palestine. Similar vetoes have stalled interventions in Syria, Sudan, and Tibet. This selective use reflects power politics, not collective security, exposing the undemocratic nature of the UNSC. It erodes the UN’s credibility and highlights the urgent need for reforms to make global governance more representative and effective
