The Khelo India ASMITA Football League 2025–26, inaugurated in Jalgaon, Maharashtra, represents a targeted affirmative action initiative to promote women’s participation in sports under the Khelo India programme.
Implemented by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports with support from the Sports Authority of India, the All India Football Federation, and the Western India Football Association, the scheme seeks to nurture grassroots talent, particularly from tribal, rural, and minority backgrounds. It aims to bridge gender gaps in sports, foster social inclusion, and contribute to nation-building through women’s empowerment in athletics.
