R. Vairamuthu has been conferred the 60th Jnanpith Award for 2025. He is the third Tamil literary figure to receive India’s highest literary honour, after Akilan and Jayakanthan, ending a 24-year gap for Tamil literature.
Vairamuthu had earlier received the Sahitya Akademi Award (2003) for his acclaimed novel Kallikattu Ithikasam, highlighting his significant contribution to Indian literature.
