The Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, 2025 seeks to ensure that persons subjected to extended detention for serious criminal offences are barred from holding high constitutional posts. The proposed amendment is intended to strengthen ethical standards and public confidence in constitutional offices.
The Bill will apply to the Central Government, State Governments, and the National Capital Territory of Delhi. Separate Bills proposing similar provisions have also been introduced for Puducherry and Jammu & Kashmir.
