Meghalaya has set up a Counter-Insurgency–Anti-Terrorism training school along with an Integrated Police Welfare Complex at Baghmara in South Garo Hills. The initiative marks a strategic shift for a district earlier identified as highly deprived.
The region’s dense forests, rugged terrain and harsh climatic conditions provide realistic training environments, making it suitable for specialised security preparedness. Beyond security, the project is expected to contribute to regional development and institutional presence.
