Madhya Pradesh Cabinet approved a scheme to develop buffer zones in the state’s nine tiger reserves.

Objective: Promote conservation-linked sustainable development and eco-tourism, while reducing pressure on core areas.

Zonation of a Biosphere Reserve/Tiger Reserve

  1. Core Zone

Most protected area.

No human activity allowed.

Focus: Wildlife conservation and natural ecosystem preservation.

  1. Buffer Zone

Surrounds the core zone.

Limited, regulated human activity permitted.

Focus: Research, education, eco-tourism, and eco-development projects.

  1. Transition Zone

Outermost zone with active human settlements.

Focus: Sustainable development, traditional practices, and human-nature coexistence.
