Lungphun Ropui, located in Lianpui village of Champhai district, has been officially declared a Monument of National Importance by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). This makes it only the second site in Mizoram to receive such recognition.
The declaration brings the site under the protection of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958, ensuring its preservation and management under central protection.
Lungphun Ropui is renowned for its ancient carved stone structures (menhirs), which hold significant cultural and archaeological value. These unique carvings offer deep insights into early Mizo life, rituals, and belief systems, making the site an important source for understanding the cultural heritage of the Mizo people.
