Meghalaya has become the first Indian state to institutionalize drone-based delivery of medicines, revolutionizing healthcare in difficult terrains. Under the Meghalaya Health Systems Strengthening Project (MHSSP), the first drone station was set up at Jengjal Sub-Divisional Hospital in December 2022.

The drones transport vaccines, medicines, blood, and diagnostic samples to remote health centers within a 50 km radius, cutting travel time from hours to minutes and ensuring faster, more reliable access to essential healthcare.
