Very important
Recently two books that showcase the rich biodiversity of Assam namely “Birds of Assam” a guidebook by septuagenarian author and naturalist Santa Sarma, and “A Handbook on Common Freshwater Fishes of Assam” – a joint publication by Assam State Wetland Authority and the Indo-German Bilateral Cooperation Project were released.
Indo-German Bilateral Cooperation spans across several sectors, with a strong focus on sustainable development, climate change, economic growth, and technological collaboration. Over the decades, Germany has emerged as one of India’s most significant development partners, contributing to areas such as renewable energy, urban infrastructure, environmental conservation, and vocational training. This cooperation is driven by a shared commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and global climate action.
Indo-German Biodiversity Programme:
This programme focuses on the conservation of biological diversity, sustainable management of ecosystems, and the restoration of degraded landscapes in India. It promotes sustainable forest management, eco-restoration of degraded land, and community-based approaches to biodiversity conservation.
Sustainable Development of Natural Resources: Projects include water conservation, afforestation, and sustainable agricultural practices. Germany’s support also extends to combating desertification and ensuring sustainable land use in India
