Mizoram has officially entered India’s railway network with the inauguration of the 51.38 km Bairabi–Sairang rail line in June 2025. This marks a transformative moment for the state, historically isolated from rail connectivity. The new line brings Aizawl just 20 km from the nearest rail terminal, drastically improving accessibility.

The project, which includes 48 tunnels and 142 bridges, showcases engineering excellence through challenging terrain. Designed to boost tourism, Indian Railways plans to introduce Vistadome coaches offering panoramic views of natural landmarks like Reiek Hills, Vantawng Falls, and Tam Dil Lake—positioning Mizoram as a potential eco-tourism hotspot in the Northeast.
