Igla-S (Very Short Range Air Defence System – VSHORADS)

• Type: Man-portable, shoulder-fired surface-to-air missile (SAM).
• Guidance: Infrared (IR) homing — locks onto heat signatures of aerial targets.
• Purpose: Neutralizes low-flying aircraft, helicopters, and UAVs.
• Range: Up to 6 km in distance; 3.5 km in altitude.
• Working: After launch, the missile autonomously homes in on the target’s engine heat.
• Significance: Enhances tactical air defence, especially against fast, low-flying threats.
