APSC JAA 2025: Indo-Pacific Maritime Domain Awareness

• The United States has approved a military hardware and logistics support package for India.
• Aim: To enhance Indo-Pacific Maritime Domain Awareness (IPMDA).

What is IPMDA?

• A Quad initiative (India, U.S., Japan, Australia) launched in 2022.
• Purpose: To improve monitoring of maritime activities in the Indo-Pacific, especially in the Indian Ocean, Southeast Asia, and Pacific Islands.
• Focuses on sharing real-time satellite-based maritime intelligence to counter illegal fishing, piracy, and enhance regional security.

Significance of the U.S. Support:

• Strengthens India’s naval capabilities and maritime surveillance infrastructure.
• Reinforces India-U.S. strategic partnership and Quad cooperation.
• Enhances regional stability and counters influence of non-transparent actors (e.g., China).
