Tamenglong district in Manipur is preparing for the arrival of Amur falcons, a migratory bird species, which roost in the area from October to November.
These birds travel from breeding grounds in Northern China, Eastern Mongolia, and Russia, before continuing their migration to South Africa.
In 2018, the forest department started a conservation programme by radio-tagging the birds to study their migratory route.
IUCN: Least Concern.
Threats: Illegal trapping and killing during migration, habitat loss from agricultural practices and land reclamation.
