The Sangtams, mainly residing in Kiphire and Tuensang districts near the India–Myanmar border, follow strong customary governance systems that influence local conservation practices.
Given the region’s vulnerability to wildlife trafficking, the decision highlights the growing importance of indigenous community-led initiatives in protecting endangered species.
