Nagaland has achieved a significant milestone with the registration of the Nagami Mithun breed by the Breed Registration Committee of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research.

The breed is widely distributed across several districts of Nagaland, including Kohima, Peren, Phek, Tuensang, Mon and Longleng, reflecting its regional importance.

Nagami Mithun is characterised by a strong, muscular body, a predominantly black coat with white stockings, and occasional white-patched or piebald patterns.
