The Manipuri duck, locally known as Meitei Nganu or Eshing Nganu, has been registered as a distinct indigenous breed by the ICAR–National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources, Karnal. The registration was approved by the Breed Registration Committee at its 13th meeting held in New Delhi on November 12 last year.
The recognition supports conservation of indigenous poultry genetic resources and regional biodiversity.
