In a major diplomatic and ecological milestone, India’s resolution on “Promoting Sustainable Lifestyles for the Wise Use of Wetlands” was unanimously adopted at Ramsar CoP15 in Zimbabwe. This marks the first resolution tabled by India at the Ramsar Convention and reflects the mainstreaming of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) on the global stage.
By securing endorsement from 172 countries and 6 international organization partners, the resolution integrates lifestyle-based climate action into wetland governance. It also shifts the wetland conservation narrative from reactive protection to proactive behavioural change—embedding ecological responsibility in everyday living.
This marks a new chapter in India’s environmental diplomacy, reinforcing its role as a norm entrepreneur in sustainable development and strengthening global momentum around community-driven conservation models.
