India Post has launched a pilot project to test the feasibility of drone-based last-mile postal delivery in difficult geographical regions. In Assam, the first drone-powered postal operations began from Hajo Sub-Post Office under the Guwahati postal division, with letters and parcels delivered to Khetri Hardia Branch Post Office.
The proposed network is expected to cover 40 routes in Assam, while 110 routes are planned in Himachal Pradesh. From Hajo alone, nine routes covering nearly 82 km have been identified, demonstrating the potential of drones to improve connectivity and delivery efficiency in remote and challenging areas.
