The demise of veteran Assamese actress Purabi Sharma marks the end of a remarkable chapter in Assamese cinema. She began her film career with Ajoli Nabou, portraying the character Runumoni, and rose to prominence with Pratham Ragini (1987), directed by Dhiru Bhuyan, which won the National Award for Best Assamese Feature Film.
Purabi Sharma also appeared alongside her husband Tapan Das in Kritajnata, directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Ranjit Das and adapted from a celebrated short story by Bhabendra Nath Saikia. Her contributions left a lasting impact on Assamese film and theatre.
