Chatrik Umorok is a prized variety of king chilli (Capsicum chinense) associated with the Chatrik area of Ukhrul district, Manipur. It is renowned for its exceptionally high pungency, reportedly exceeding 1 million Scoville Heat Units (SHU), along with a distinctive smoky and fruity aroma.
The Manipur Government has applied for a Geographical Indication (GI) tag for Chatrik Umorok. GI recognition could help protect its unique regional identity, strengthen its market value and support the livelihoods of indigenous chilli growers.
