Northeast Frontier Railway has started installing Automatic Weather Stations at vulnerable locations across its network to strengthen railway safety and disaster preparedness during the monsoon season.

The initiative aims to provide real-time weather forecasting and support timely preventive measures during floods, landslides and extreme weather events. Nine AWS units are being installed at strategically sensitive locations, including the Lumding division, the Katakhal–Sairang railway section connecting Mizoram and the Jiribam–Khongsang section in Manipur.
