The Assam State Cabinet has approved restructuring of the Commissionerate of Taxes to strengthen tax administration. The reform raises the sanctioned strength from 540 to 701, including 157 new statutory officer posts and four Information Technology Officer posts, alongside a revised GST-aligned designation structure.
The operational network will expand from 10 to 11 functional zones, with a new Kamrup Zone. The Assam Taxation Service Rules will also be amended to enable separate APSC examinations for Superintendent of State Taxes.
