Assam has reported the second-highest number of grievances under the Jal Jeevan Mission, with 1,226 complaints, indicating implementation challenges in rural water supply. Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of complaints.
The grievances relate to financial irregularities, poor construction quality and non-functional tap connections, highlighted through media reports, citizen feedback and grievance portals.
To address these issues, the Centre has extended the Jal Jeevan Mission till December 2028 with increased funding and a renewed focus on completing pending works, especially in vulnerable areas through better Centre–State coordination.
