Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), an autonomous administrative authority in Assam’s Bodo tribal areas, has demanded its inclusion in Article 280 of the Constitution to get more funds for the development of some remote districts

Article 280 provides for a Finance Commission which is a quasi-judicial body. It is constituted by the President of India.

This provision mandates the President to constitute a Finance Commission every five years or at such an earlier time as deemed necessary. The commission’s primary role is to recommend the distribution of net proceeds of taxes between the Union and the States, ensuring a balanced economic and financial administration.
