The U.S. Department of Energy has removed the ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principle from its radiation safety directives, marking a major policy shift. ALARA, based on the Linear No-Threshold (LNT) model, required radiation exposure to be kept as low as practically and economically possible, even below legal limits, due to assumed risk at any exposure level.
