250th Anniversary of American Independence

• The American Revolution culminated in the United States Declaration of Independence, drafted principally by Thomas Jefferson on a portable lap writing desk.
• Initially, the conflict was largely a civil war within Britain’s American colonies. It became an international war after France (1778) and Spain (1779) joined against Britain, while the Netherlands provided vital financial support.
• In 2026, the United States is commemorating the 250th anniversary of its independence.
