The first session of the 16th Assam Legislative Assembly commenced with four scheduled working days. Newly elected members were administered oath during the inaugural sitting.
Proceedings began with the Governor’s orders under Article 180(1) of the Constitution regarding appointment of a member to perform the duties of the Speaker, and under Article 188 regarding administration of oath or affirmation to members. The Assam Cabinet also approved the Governor’s inaugural address under Article 176(1) of the Constitution for the newly constituted Assembly.
