The world’s first female calf produced through in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) from Assam’s indigenous Lakhimi cattle breed has been born at the Assam Veterinary and Fishery University. The achievement marks a significant milestone in the application of advanced reproductive technology to Assam’s indigenous livestock.
The development is expected to strengthen efforts towards the conservation, genetic improvement and multiplication of indigenous cattle breeds through modern reproductive techniques.
