World Water Day is observed annually on 22 March to highlight the importance of freshwater and promote sustainable management of water resources. It is coordinated by UN-Water and focuses on global water challenges.
The 2026 theme, “Water and Gender,” emphasises the critical role of gender equality in water access, management and decision-making. It draws attention to how women and marginalized groups are disproportionately affected by water scarcity and aims to promote inclusive water governance.
