Blockchain is a decentralized and distributed digital ledger technology that securely records transactions across a network of computers. Its core features—including decentralization, immutability, and cryptography—eliminate the need for third-party intermediaries, providing a tamper-proof and highly transparent system

Features of Blockchain

Decentralization: The network is not controlled by a single central authority (like a bank or government). Instead, it operates on a peer-to-peer network where all participating computers (nodes) share the burden of maintaining and updating the system.

Distributed Ledger: Every node in the network maintains an identical copy of the transaction ledger. Because the ledger is synchronized across the globe, it provides complete transparency and eliminates single points of failure.

Immutability: Once a block of data is verified and added to the blockchain, it cannot be altered or deleted. This tamper-proof characteristic makes the system highly resistant to fraud and corruption.

Cryptography: Blockchain utilizes complex mathematical encryption and cryptographic hashing to secure data. Every block is securely linked to the one before it, creating a chronological and highly secure “chain.”

Indian government launched the Vishvasya-Blockchain Technology Stack, along with other blockchain solutions, to enhance transparency, security, and trust in citizen-centric services. These innovations aim to transform governance, improve service delivery, and promote blockchain adoption in various sectors.

Uses:

Citizen Services: Secure digital identities, verification processes, and tamper-proof records for public services such as land registries, healthcare, and education.
Financial Services: Streamlined, secure transactions for banking, insurance, and financial operations, reducing fraud and enhancing transparency.
Supply Chain Management: Traceability and verification for goods, ensuring authenticity and accountability in agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and logistics sectors.
