According to the UNESCO Global Education Report 2025, around 133 million girls worldwide are still out of school, underscoring the slow progress toward gender equality in education even three decades after the Beijing Declaration of 1995.
The Beijing Declaration, adopted at the Fourth World Conference on Women on 15 September 1995, outlined global commitments to ensure equality between men and women in all spheres, including education. Despite these pledges, systemic barriers, socio-economic challenges, and cultural biases continue to restrict girls’ access to schooling, highlighting the urgent need for renewed international efforts to achieve inclusive and equitable education for all.
