The Tea Board of India has urged the industry to adopt stringent food safety standards, stating that such measures are vital for ensuring the long-term sustainability of the tea sector.
In its newly released Plant Protection Code (PPC), the Board emphasized that compliance with food safety norms would help protect the plantation ecosystem, safeguard worker welfare, and support small tea growers.
The PPC promotes Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) such as integrated pest management (IPM) and the use of eco-friendly pest control alternatives, aiming to reduce dependency on chemical pesticides. The Board stressed that early-season adoption of IPM is key to maintaining food safety and crop health.
