The proposed “Tawang Initiative” aims to create an integrated Buddhist tourism circuit connecting major spiritual destinations across Northeast India and neighbouring countries. The circuit is expected to link important Buddhist sites in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Sikkim and Manipur to promote cultural tourism and regional connectivity.

Tawang has been highlighted as the centrepiece of the initiative because of its deep religious and historical importance. The region is home to the nearly 400-year-old Tawang Monastery and is associated with the Sixth Dalai Lama and the present Dalai Lama’s historic route.
