Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu launched ‘Rakta’ rice, an organic red rice variety from Tawang district, highlighting it as a symbol of traditional farming practices, cultural heritage, and sustainable agriculture.
The crop has long been cultivated by the Monpa community in the high-altitude valleys of Tawang using indigenous techniques suited to cold climatic and mountainous conditions. The initiative aims to promote traditional agri-products, support local farmers, and strengthen branding of indigenous organic produce.
