Culture & International Affairs
In a historic development, Papua New Guinea has officially entered the Academy Awards race for the first time. The country has selected Papa Buka as its official entry to the 98th Academy Awards in the International Feature Film category.
The film has been directed by acclaimed Malayali filmmaker Dr Biju, who is widely known for his socially conscious and internationally recognised works. His involvement marks a unique cultural collaboration, placing an Indian director at the centre of Papua New Guinea’s cinematic breakthrough.
This milestone not only highlights the global reach of Indian filmmakers but also underscores the increasing cultural exchange between smaller film industries and world cinema platforms like the Oscars.
