Environment / Biodiversity & Flora

A new plant species, Strobilanthes riteshii, belonging to the family Acanthaceae, has been recorded during floristic surveys at Chayangtajo in East Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh. The discovery was made by researchers from the Botanical Survey of India’s Arunachal Pradesh Regional Centre in collaboration with the Agharkar Research Institute.

The species is currently known only from its type locality, indicating a highly restricted distribution and underscoring the conservation importance of the region’s rich but fragile floral diversity.
