Assam marked the 45th Foundation Day of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) with a focus on the transformation of Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS). Through NABARD’s computerisation initiative, PACSs in Assam have evolved from weak rural credit institutions into digitally enabled organisations with improved governance and efficiency.
Beyond providing agricultural credit, PACS have diversified into commercial activities such as operating petrol pumps and other business ventures, strengthening rural livelihoods, improving financial inclusion, and contributing to the state’s rural economy.
APSC Relevance: Economy; Agriculture.
