The National Council of Educational Research and Training has decided to replace a retouched image of the iconic Dancing Girl of Mohenjo-daro in its new Class 9 Art textbook.

The Dancing Girl is a famous bronze sculpture of the Indus Valley Civilization, noted for its realistic craftsmanship and artistic sophistication. The figure stands in a natural contrapposto posture, with body weight resting primarily on one leg, creating a sense of movement and balance.

Its right arm is bent with the hand resting near the hip, while the elongated left arm hangs by the side, possibly holding a small vessel. The sculpture is regarded as an important example of early urban art and metallurgy in ancient India.
