Governance
The Meghalaya Cabinet has approved the Meghalaya Film Tourism Policy, 2025, positioning the state as a premier filming destination in the Northeast. To streamline efforts and promote the region’s scenic and cultural richness, a dedicated Film Facilitation Cell will be established, comprising officials from the Tourism, Arts & Culture, DIPR, and other departments.
The policy introduces substantial incentives to attract both domestic and international filmmakers. Productions that highlight Meghalaya’s landscapes and involve at least 75% of filming within the state can receive up to ₹1 crore or 25% of production costs. For the promotion of local culture, Khasi, Pnar, and Garo language films will be eligible for ₹50 lakh every two years per filmmaker.
TV serials, web series, and OTT content produced in Meghalaya are also covered under the subsidy scheme. Additionally, documentaries and short films from the state will be eligible for financial support. This policy reflects a strategic approach to blend culture, economy, and media for tourism-led development.
