Manipur Govt had taken up various schemes to protect and safeguard the Manipuri pony, reiterating that modern polo originated in the state of Manipur.
The Manipuri pony is historically linked to the origin of modern polo, which evolved from the traditional Manipuri game Sagol Kangjei.

- Manipuri Pony Conservation and Development Policy (2016)
The state government introduced this policy to preserve, breed, and promote the Manipuri pony.
It focuses on creating pony reserves, breeding farms, and fodder banks.
- Pony Sanctuary at Heingang
The government established a Manipuri Pony Sanctuary in Heingang, near Imphal, to provide a safe habitat for the dwindling population of ponies.
- Support for Sagol Kangjei & Polo
The state promotes traditional polo tournaments such as the Manipur Polo International Tournament, which is played on Manipuri ponies.
