Goa is set to create its third district named Kushavati, marking a significant administrative reorganisation in the state. The proposed district has been named after the ancient Kushavati river flowing through parts of the region.

At present, Goa consists of only two districts—North Goa and South Goa. The announcement was made by Pramod Sawant, who stated that the new district is expected to improve administrative efficiency and regional governance through better decentralisation.
