Researchers at IIT Guwahati, in collaboration with IIT Kharagpur, have developed an ultrathin, light-sensitive device inspired by the human brain. In laboratory tests, it consumed 500 times less energy than conventional MXene-based devices while integrating light detection, memory retention and learning-like response.
The device retains information after illumination stops and strengthens its response to repeated light signals. Potential applications include facial recognition, robotic vision, traffic monitoring and intelligent computing, offering opportunities for energy-efficient artificial intelligence and next-generation sensing technologies.
