A rare frog species with distinctive fanged jaws has been discovered in Namdapha Tiger Reserve, highlighting the region’s rich biodiversity. Found in Changlang district, the species shows unique underground nesting behaviour, uncommon among amphibians.
Named after Motijheel Lake within the reserve, it produces a distinctive “woooooak” call during April–May. The discovery underscores the ecological importance of Northeast India and the need for continued research and conservation of lesser-known species.
