Science and Technology – Agricultural Innovation
Scientists at the ICAR–National Institute of Animal Nutrition and Physiology (NIANP), Bengaluru, have developed CRYODIL, India’s first egg yolk-free semen preservation solution for buffalo breeding. This ready-to-use extender can preserve semen for up to 18 months while maintaining fertility and motility.
Developed under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), CRYODIL provides a safe, efficient, and affordable alternative to conventional egg-yolk-based extenders, which pose biosecurity and contamination challenges. The innovation is expected to significantly enhance buffalo breeding efficiency, promote genetic improvement, and strengthen India’s livestock productivity and dairy sector sustainability.
