Abo Tani is regarded as the legendary ancestor of several Tani tribes of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, including the Apatani, Mising, Adi, Galo, Tagin and Nyishi. These communities traditionally follow the Donyi–Polo faith and attribute the origin of wet rice cultivation techniques to Abo Tani.

Reflecting this shared heritage, members of the Galo tribe of Arunachal Pradesh and the Mising community of Assam celebrated the Galo–Mising Cultural Festival 2026 at Bechamara along the Assam–Arunachal border on 13–14 March. The festival highlighted their cultural ties, traditions and common ancestral lineage.

APSC Relevance: Important for tribes of Northeast India, cultural anthropology and the concept of the Tani tribal lineage.
