Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel are being deployed in Assam and West Bengal to strengthen security arrangements ahead of Assembly elections. Around 800 personnel will assist in maintaining law and order and ensuring peaceful polling.

TSR was raised in the 1980s to counter insurgency in Tripura and was formalised under the Tripura State Rifles Act, 1983, with its first battalion established in 1984. The force currently comprises 12 battalions, including nine India Reserve units, and functions on the lines of central paramilitary forces.
