Assam has established a Transgender Welfare Board, along with four other states including Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. This update was shared with the Supreme Court recently

Objectives of the Transgender Welfare Board:

  1. Social Inclusion: Promote social acceptance, reduce discrimination, and ensure equal opportunities in education, employment, and healthcare.
  2. Skill Development & Employment: Facilitate vocational training and employment opportunities tailored to transgender persons.
  3. Health & Well-being: Ensure access to gender-affirming healthcare services, mental health support, and HIV/AIDS prevention programs.
