The North Eastern Tea Association (NETA) will confer its Lifetime Achievement Award on Piyush Desai, Chairman of the Wagh Bakri Tea Group, in recognition of his long-standing contribution to India’s tea industry. Founded in 1892, the Wagh Bakri Tea Group has grown into one of the country’s leading packaged tea companies, with an annual turnover exceeding ₹2,000 crore, distribution of over 50 million kg of tea, and an estimated 9% market share.

The award underscores the role of legacy enterprises and industry leadership in sustaining India’s tea economy, including the Northeast, which remains central to national tea production and livelihoods.
