Loktak Lotus Tea was presented as a gift to the Prime Minister of Sweden, highlighting the unique biodiversity and traditional innovations associated with Loktak Lake.
The initiative is led by Bijiyashanti Tongbram, whose work on lotus-based products has gained national recognition. She is regarded as the first person in India to extract fibre from lotus stems and transform it into products such as stoles, scarves and neckties using natural dyes. Her research on the medicinal, ecological and economic potential of the lotus has contributed to the development of innovative products linked to Loktak Lake.
